Disney borrow Joy Division album cover for Micky Mouse merch

I imagine this t-shirt was put forward as a joke, designed possibly by an intern working at, what I imagine, is one of those faceless corporate clothes designers; churning out, slightly different sweater designs for places like TK Maxxxxx (I never know how many xs there are) and Next (just the one x).

I hope so. I don’t know exactly how Disney’s merchandise works.

But, for a company who signed up to corporations against piracy, PIPA-supporting, petition, I find this pretty galling.

I don’t know whether The Cambridge Encyclopaedia of Astronomy or Peter Saville and Chris Mathan, the designers of the original Joy Division, Unknown Pleasures album sleave, were asked their permission to copy their work, but my instinct is that it’s unlikely.

The words: pot, kettle, dirty rotten hypocrite, spring to mind, don’t they?

Also, they do know that Ian Curtis hung himself, right? And where the name Joy Division came from?

This isn’t cool, it’s the end of everything

Oh cool look it’s a video game that you can control with your piss that’s neat. Oh wait no, they’re using it to advertise shit. I find those pernicious little urinal adverts offensive enough, but this really does take the fucking piss biscuit.

Is there literally nowhere free from the grasp of advertising? Please. There just has to be some restraint. You’re just making us better at ignoring it.

i.e The sound effects guy from Police Academy has still got it. So much of it. Perhaps too much of it. He should certainly consider giving some of it away to more needy people. Seriously, this is fucking incredible.

10 worst (best) metal covers ever

Putting this feature together it made me glad that we live in a world where there are so many genres. Not just for variety’s sake, but because without them, we wouldn’t have the opportunity for these taste-shreddingly awesome cross-over covers would we?

And I think anyone who watches even three of these covers would agree with me.

MacGruber — Think your shit don’t stink?

Me and Soph flicked onto Sky Movies Comedy the other night, we had no idea what was on. MacGruber was on. It was amazingly funny. Not clever, just very funny — like Hots Shots 3 for the noughties, but with Kristen Wiig, being predictably awesome.

Yeah it’s almost a year old, but this is still one of the funniest things I’ve seen all this year. This, and those 10 seconds from MacGruber which features the line: “You think your shit don’t stink, well I’ve got news for you, it does stink, it stinks of shit.”

Marcus du Sautoy doesn’t believe in maths

So Marcus du Sautoy’s Wonder of the Universe for Maths, The Code, finished last night. It was fine, and at points, really interesting, but I did notice that Marcus himself clearly isn’t completely sold on the whole “maths” thing.

He made this big song and dance about being able to predict the flight of this ball with maths alone, and fair enough, he did. However, he isn’t so convinced that it stops him lifting his feet to protect himself as the massive thing flies towards his smug little face on his deck chair.
